Things to do in Beacon Hill

Beacon Hill is a residential neighbourhood of nineteenth-century brick row houses and gas lamps, best covered on foot in under two hours.

Acorn Street, one narrow cobblestone lane lined with former servants' quarters, is among the most photographed streets in the United States, so expect other visitors with cameras, especially in autumn when the foliage on adjacent Boston Common peaks.

The gold-domed Massachusetts State House sits at the top of the hill; the T stops at Park Street (Red/Green) and Charles/MGH (Red) both sit a five-to-ten-minute walk away. Cobblestones get slick in winter snow, and this is a lived-in neighbourhood of private homes, not an attraction, so keep noise down on residential streets.
