Things to do on the Freedom Trail
5-mile (4-kilometre) walking route marked by a red brick line in the pavement, linking 16 Revolutionary-era sites from Boston Common to the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown. It passes the Massachusetts State House, Faneuil Hall, the Old North Church and the USS Constitution, moored at the Charlestown Navy Yard.
Walking the whole route takes several hours; most visitors cover only part of it. No transport is needed between stops, and following the red line costs nothing, though a few sites along the way, including the Old State House and the Paul Revere House, charge their own admission.
Start at Park Street or Government Center T stations, and expect heavy crowds in summer and school holidays.
